RAPÉ & SANANGA
During some of our ceremonies there will be an opportunity to work with the medicines of rapé and sananga. On request we offer also sessions to experience these medicines on their own.
Rapé (pronounced as ‘Ha-paay‘) is a shamanic snuff from the Amazon. It is made of the sacred tobacco plant (Mapacho or ‘Nicotiana rustica’) and ashes from certain plants and trees.
The powder is blown into both nose holes by using a kuripe or tepi.
Rapé has a grounding effect. It aligns you with your central column, assisting you in centring yourself. People often experience a release, followed by a quieting of the mind. After receiving the medicine, you are invited to stay in a meditative state.
Tobacco is used as a prayer medicine in indigenous cultures. Sitting with this medicine can help us to clarify and align with our intentions and visions.
Sananga is also a plant of the Amazon. The roots are grinded and made into an infusion. The pieces are filtered out, so what remains is a clear liquid. One or two drops of the Sananga are applied to the corner of the eyes. This gives a burning effect on the eyes, which lasts about 5 to a maximum of 10 minutes.
Sananga clears out what the indigenous people call ‘Panema’ – which is translated into the ‘dark clouds that surround us’. It can enhance ones eyesight and people have reported beneficial effects with color blindness and glaucoma.
